A 9-acre site near Gloucester that included both garden and agricultural land. The client brief was to design a space that could be used for child play and adult entertaining. Both vegetable garden and cut flower border were essential plus somewhere to house the chickens. A ‘wild’ contemporary style with year-round interest was the client’s vision.
Details:
Parking and a green roofed bicycle store placed to the side whilst levelling the front garden provided a space to take in the views and was planted for year round interest.
A white border was designed for the shady area opposite the entrance to the barn. The design incorporated all the clients wish list with an area for play equipment, kitchen garden with greenhouse and a long cut flower border. A large terrace with kitchen area and a separate sunken firepit provided space for adult entertaining. The agricultural land was seamlessly joined to the garden through planting, with prairie style borders leading to meadow and orchards with mown paths linking the both.

“Amazing – I had never even considered this part of the garden. There were lots of good ideas and the design was well presented and very well thought out’’. Mrs Smith, Gloucester
