A west-facing tiny space, accessible only through the apartment’s sliding door, the client wanted a space to sit outside with screening to provide a greater level of privacy and with low maintenance planting that would be visible from inside the flat.
Details:
Restrictions prevented the railings from being replaced so horizontal wooden panels (upcycled from old fencing) were attached to them. The area immediately in front of the sliding door was covered with hardwood decking to provide a seating area, and an upcycled filing cabinet provides outdoor storage. Surrounding the decking pallet wood planters and containers provide planting space which will give some further screening as plants mature. Astro turf was laid on the slip of ground in front of the bedrooms, with pallet planters here to provide splashes of colour and a feeling of privacy. The planters are visible from the lounge and bedroom windows, providing year-round interest.
Simple but very effective, and in keeping with the new building opposite
